Privacy Policy & Disclosure

How All The Ways You Wander collects, uses, and protects your data — and how affiliate links and sponsored content work on this site.

Effective: December 2018  |  Last updated: 21 July 2026

All The Ways You Wander (allthewaysyouwander.com) is operated by Neil Arthurs ("I", "me", "my"). I'm committed to protecting your privacy and being upfront about how this site works. This page explains what information I collect, how I use it, how cookies and affiliate links work here, and what rights you have over your own data.

You can browse this website without providing any personal details. Certain features — like the newsletter or a booking enquiry — do require some information from you to work.

1. Information I Collect

I collect personal information that you voluntarily provide, including:

  • Contact details: Your name and email address, when you subscribe to the newsletter or submit a booking enquiry.
  • Booking enquiry details: Any information you choose to share in a workshop enquiry, including your preferred destination and any notes about your photography goals, dietary needs, or accommodation requirements.
  • Communication data: Anything you send me directly by email.
  • Automatically collected data: When you visit the site, standard technical information is logged automatically — your IP address, browser and device type, referring website, pages viewed, and the date and time of your visit.

2. How I Use Your Information & Legal Basis

I use the information I collect to:

  • Respond to booking enquiries and organise workshops (necessary to fulfil a contract with you, or to take steps towards one at your request).
  • Send newsletters and updates, if you've opted in (based on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time).
  • Understand how visitors use the site, so I can improve it (legitimate interest in running a functional, useful website).
  • Track affiliate link and campaign performance (legitimate interest in understanding what content is useful to readers).
  • Meet legal or administrative obligations where required.

3. Cookies & Tracking Technologies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device that help this site function and help me understand how it's used. The site uses a few categories of cookies:

  • Essential cookies: Required for the basic functioning of the website.
  • Analytics cookies: Help me understand how visitors interact with the site, via Google Analytics.
  • Affiliate cookies: Set by third-party affiliate partners (see Section 5) to track referrals if you click through and make a purchase.
  • Embedded content cookies: From services like YouTube, when a video is embedded in a post or page.

You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings at any time. Disabling them may limit some functionality of the site.

4. Third-Party Services

I use a small number of third-party services to run this site, each governed by their own privacy policy:

  • Google Analytics — tracks website usage and traffic sources. Google's privacy policy. You can opt out here.
  • Mailchimp — manages the newsletter. Your email address is stored securely on their platform if you subscribe.
  • YouTube — embedded videos may set their own cookies and collect usage data when played.
  • FormSubmit — processes booking enquiry form submissions and forwards them to me by email.
  • Squarespace — hosts this website and its own analytics may apply.

I don't sell your personal data, and I don't share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

5. Affiliate Links, Advertising & Sponsored Content

This section covers how the site may make money beyond workshop bookings, and what that means for you as a reader.

Affiliate Links

Some posts on this site contain affiliate links — for example, to camera gear, travel booking platforms, or services like Booking.com, Viator, or Omio via networks such as Travelpayouts. If you click one of these links and make a purchase, I may earn a small commission. This costs you nothing extra, and I only recommend products or services I genuinely believe in.

Advertising & Retargeting

The site may occasionally use third-party advertising or retargeting (for example, through Google or Meta) to show relevant ads to past visitors elsewhere on the web. These services use cookies as described in Section 3.

Sponsored Content

From time to time, the site may include sponsored content or tracking pixels from a partner organisation. Any sponsored content will be clearly identified as such. No personally identifiable information is collected through these pixels.

6. Publicly Visible Information

If you leave a public comment on the site, information you provide with it — such as your name and any website link you choose to add — may be visible to other visitors. Your email address is never displayed publicly.

7. Data Retention

I keep personal information only as long as it's needed for the purpose it was collected — for example, booking enquiry details are kept for as long as reasonably necessary to organise a workshop and meet any tax or accounting obligations, and newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe.

8. Data Security

I take reasonable steps to protect your personal information, including relying on established, reputable providers (Squarespace, Mailchimp, Google, FormSubmit) for storage and processing. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so I can't guarantee absolute security, but I don't take this lightly.

9. International Data Transfers

Some of the third-party services this site relies on (Section 4) may store or process data outside the European Economic Area. Where that happens, those providers are responsible for ensuring appropriate safeguards are in place under their own privacy policies.

10. Your Rights

If you're in the EU or UK, GDPR gives you the following rights over your personal data:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data I hold about you.
  • Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Erasure: Request deletion of your personal data, subject to certain exceptions.
  • Restriction: Request that I limit how I use your data.
  • Data portability: Request your data in a format you can transfer elsewhere.
  • Objection: Object to your data being used for marketing purposes.

To exercise any of these rights, contact me by email. If you're not satisfied with how I've handled your data, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Irish Data Protection Commission, the supervisory authority for this business.

11. Children's Privacy

This website isn't directed at children, and I don't knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact me and I'll remove it.

12. Changes to This Policy

I may update this page from time to time. Any changes will be posted here with a new "Last updated" date above. I'd encourage you to check back occasionally.
