I first met Neil on a workshop in Lofoten and we hit it off immediately. Our taste in music is very similar and being almost the same age we have the same influences.

However it was when we started taking photographs together that things really clicked.

Neil has a calmness about his photography which filtered through to everyone around him. I tend to get excited by what's in front of me and want to take a million shots, but Neil's demeanor and focus cooled me down and allowed me to take some of my favourite images ever.

Then during a short 121 workshop in the Algarve, Portugal, he took me to some of the best locations to shoot waves and seascapes which is what I was looking for.

His knowledge of the area was superb and when one location wasn't working, he knew of 2 or 3 others that could work better, and they often did.

I had the pleasure of recently attending an African workshop led by Neil. His attention to ALL the details made it one of the best photography experiences I ever had in my life. His tireless work ethic, positive demeanor and ability to adapt was second to none.

Furthermore, he provided great advice to help the attendees get the best photos possible. I also appreciated his efforts to keep us on schedule. The end result was one of the most productive and most enjoyable workshops I ever attended.

If you have the opportunity to attend one of Neil’s workshops, do it! You won’t be disappointed!

I originally signed up for Brendan van Son’s photography workshop in Namibia, but when he couldn’t make it, Neil stepped in at the last minute to lead the trip. What could have been a complicated situation turned into one of the most unforgettable adventures I’ve ever had.

What really stood out was how Neil handled everything on the fly. Stepping in unexpectedly, he brought a great mix of humor and direction, quickly earning everyone’s trust. He kept us organized, motivated, and laughing even when the days were long or the plans had to change. His ability to adapt while keeping the group’s spirits high made all the difference.

I joined the trip for the photography, but what I got was so much more — an incredible journey through one of the most beautiful countries on earth, a reminder of the joy of adventure, and a deep respect for what it takes to make an expedition like this work. Neil turned what could have been a logistical challenge into a truly remarkable experience.

Neil is a wonderful photography guide and mentor. If you have the opportunity to attend a workshop with him, you will enjoy applicable and patient instruction while in the field.

He uses the opportunity in front of you to offer tips and guidance - be it a walrus inspecting your zodiac or a hillside lit up by the sun.

All the while, Neil adds humor and wit to make the experience an unforgettable adventure!

I went with Neil on two photo tours, to Namibia in 2024 and to Botswana-Zimbabwe in 2025. Both were very well organized, we visited great places, and I came back with many photos I loved. Neil was a co-leader in 2024 and the leader in 2025, so I got to know him pretty well.

He’s determined to help you in any way he can, he’s attentive to participants’ needs, he’s very knowledgeable in all areas of photography-he helped me with astrophotography, and he is a pleasure to be around.

Every morning, Neil also used his impressive coffee making skills to treat us to gourmet coffee. I hope to go on another tour with him in the future.

My time in Botswana with Neil was truly extraordinary. From start to finish, the workshop was exceptionally well-organized, allowing us to relax and fully immerse ourselves in the experience.

Neil led us through unforgettable adventures—whether we were tracking lions and leopards or capturing once-in-a-lifetime moments in the golden light of the delta.

His guidance elevated my photography in ways I didn’t expect, and the opportunities he created for us were truly stellar.
