Neil's take
From Neil
Ever since I took a landscape photography road trip to the South of Spain and Andalusia, I knew it was a place I wanted to share with everyone. I fell in love with the entire region, from the quaint towns and rich history to the epic landscapes that stretch as far as the eye can see. This workshop offers a unique chance to experience and photograph some of Spain's most captivating landscapes. Don't miss this chance to explore and capture the natural and architectural wonders of Andalusia.

About this trip
8 days. Southern Spain. Land, light and history.

Andalusia is a photographer's symphony — where mountains crescendo into jagged peaks, white villages cling to cliffs like fallen stars, and Moorish palaces whisper tales of lost kingdoms. This workshop immerses you in southern Spain's most dramatic contrasts: the Sierra de Grazalema's emerald valleys at dawn, Ronda's Puente Nuevo bridge suspended between sky and gorge, and El Torcal's Martian limestone labyrinths at golden hour. By day, we'll chase light across landscapes that feel plucked from fantasy; by night (weather permitting), we'll frame the Milky Way above olive groves in one of Europe's darkest sky reserves.

Cities become living galleries here. In Granada, you'll photograph the Alhambra's intricate arches glowing against the Sierra Nevada's snow. In Seville, Plaza de España's tilework dances with midday reflections, while Triana's alleyways pulse with flamenco energy. Every location offers dual lessons: how to master technical challenges (exposing for whitewashed walls in harsh light) and how to feel a place through your lens.

This is Andalusia untamed. Where every turn reveals a new dialogue between wild nature and human artistry — whether it's a shepherd's path in Grazalema or the geometric perfection of the Alcázar. Come ready to chase light that has inspired artists for centuries.

What you'll master
Four skills this trip will sharpen
Long exposure for water & skies
Mastering ND filters and slow shutter speeds to capture the movement of clouds, water, and light across the Andalusian landscape
Advanced composition for architecture & cities
Working with the geometry of Moorish palaces, whitewashed villages, and dramatic bridges to create balanced, compelling frames
Post-processing image review sessions
Editing techniques for high-contrast Spanish light, blue hour blends, and the delicate tones of limestone landscapes. Sessions always optional
Capturing the Milky Way
Weather permitting, we'll frame the night sky above olive groves in one of Europe's darkest sky reserves
Itinerary
How the 8 days unfold
1
Day
Arrival Seville — first light in Zahara de la Sierra
Airport pickup at Seville. Drive to the white village of Zahara de la Sierra, perched dramatically on a cliff above a reservoir. First sunset session chasing the golden light over the mountains. Blue hour photography as the village lights illuminate the cliff face and castle.
2
Day
Olvera — white villages & mountain light
Sunrise at Zahara, then drive to Olvera for sunset. This classic pueblo blanco offers sweeping views across the Andalusian countryside. Long exposure work as the light fades and the village glows against the darkening sky.
3–4
Days
Ronda — the bridge, the gorge, the blue hour
Two days in the city that inspired Hemingway. Capture the iconic Puente Nuevo bridge suspended between sky and gorge. Sunrise from the valley floor, sunset from the cliffs, and the magical blue hour when the bridge lights up against the twilight sky. Evening street photography in Ronda's atmospheric old town.
5–6
Days
El Torcal de Antequera — the limestone labyrinth
Two full days in this extraordinary natural park — a landscape of limestone formations that feel like another planet. Sunrise and sunset sessions among the rocks, with time to explore the hiking trails and find unique compositions. One night dedicated to astrophotography in one of Europe's darkest sky reserves, weather permitting.
7
Day
Córdoba — the Mezquita & the old city
Sunset in Córdoba. Photograph the iconic Mezquita-Catedral at golden hour, the Roman bridge, and the winding streets of the Judería. Evening exploration of the city's atmospheric plazas and fountains.
8
Day
Granada — the Alhambra & the Sierra Nevada
Final sunset and blue hour at the Alhambra. Photograph the iconic palace against the Sierra Nevada mountains as the sky deepens into twilight. Optional sunrise session before transfers to Seville for departure — or continue to Seville for the city add-on.

The rhythm of the trip
What a typical day feels like
First light
September days in Andalucía mean reasonable sunrise times. We're in position before the light hits — whether that's a white village perched on a cliff, the limestone labyrinths of El Torcal, or the bridge at Ronda. The low autumn light is golden, soft, and lasts.
Midday — rest and recover
After the morning session, we retreat. Good coffee, local food, and a chance to review images or simply rest. The middle of the day is deliberately relaxed — this is a driving tour, so we move between locations at a comfortable pace. Neil is available for one-on-one feedback if you want it.
The second session
Late afternoon we head back out for the golden hour and blue hour. The light in Andalucía at this time of year is warm, dramatic, and fast-moving. We shoot until the last colour drains from the sky — and then we shoot the blue hour.
The night shift
At El Torcal, we have one night dedicated to astrophotography in one of Europe's darkest sky reserves. Weather permitting, we'll frame the Milky Way above the limestone formations. These sessions are optional — but nobody ever opts out.

Questions
Things people ask before they book
Who leads the workshop and who does the driving?
Neil leads all photography sessions. He also drives the group between locations in a comfortable vehicle. The itinerary is designed to keep driving distances manageable, with plenty of time for photography along the way.
What experience level do I need?
Open to all levels. A basic understanding of manual exposure settings is beneficial for the fast-changing Spanish light. If you can shoot in manual mode, you're ready.
Tell me about the Seville add-on.
The Seville add-on is a 3-night post-expedition extension focused on cityscapes, architectural photography, and blue hour. You'll travel from Granada to Seville together on Day 8. Three days photographing Plaza de España at twilight, the Alcázar's intricate details, the Triana district, and the atmospheric streets of the old town. The transport is included in the add-on price of €1,500 per person (twin share). Mention it when you enquire.
Are editing sessions mandatory?
Not at all. All editing and review sessions are optional. Workshop days are full of photography — if you'd rather rest during downtime, that's completely fine. Neil makes himself available during midday breaks and occasional evenings for those who want feedback on their images. No pressure, ever.
How many people are in the group?
To ensure a high-quality, personal experience, the group is strictly limited to 6 participants.
What is the fitness level required?
Moderate fitness level required. Some locations require walking on uneven terrain (El Torcal involves hiking on limestone paths). You don't need to be an athlete, but you should be comfortable on your feet for extended periods. If you have concerns, mention it when you enquire.
What camera gear should I bring?
Suggested focal range: 16mm to 200mm. A sturdy tripod is essential for long exposures, blue hour, and astrophotography. A full kit list is sent after booking.
How do bookings and deposits work?
A €500 deposit secures your place via Wise (link above). The remaining balance is due 8 weeks before departure. Cancellation terms and a liability waiver are provided with your booking confirmation.
