WORKSHOP OVERVIEW & PHILOSOPHY

Namibia is not a place you simply photograph; it is a place you feel. This 13-day journey is built on the philosophy that photography isn't about the camera—it's about learning how to see. From the towering orange dunes of Sossusvlei to the fog-drenched wrecks of the Skeleton Coast, we will focus on the Analog Ritual: slowing down, breathing in the desert air, and waiting for the light to reveal the hidden geometry of the sand.

The Explorer's Journey & GoGravel Partnership

I have designed this itinerary to bypass the standard tourist loops. By partnering with GoGravel Photosafaris, we gain specialized 4x4 access to the northern Skeleton Coast—a "No-Man's-Land" of shipwrecks and massive dunes that few ever see. This journey is honest, raw, and focused entirely on the craft. We will stay inside the national parks to ensure we are standing on the dunes before the first light touches the horizon.

What to Expect: The Heart of the Desert

Expect to find yourself standing in total silence as the sun crests over the world's highest dunes, painting the sand in shades of burning apricot and deep shadow. We are going to hunt for the atmospheric—the way the Atlantic mist softens the light on a rusted hull, or capturing the geometry of the desert from above. This is a journey of discovery and light. We will spend our nights under some of the darkest skies on Earth and our days exploring the rugged, beautiful desolation of the Skeleton Coast.

Namibia Workshop FAQ

Leadership & Guiding
I lead all photography tuition and sessions. For the technically demanding Skeleton Coast and Kaokoveld segments, we partner with the expert team at GoGravel to provide specialized 4x4 support and local navigation.
Experience Level
Open to all levels. Namibia’s landscapes are perfect for mastering scale, while the Skeleton Coast offers unique opportunities for atmospheric and abstract photography.
Max Group Size
To ensure everyone has a dedicated window seat and personalized tuition in the field, we keep our group strictly limited to 5 participants.
Physical Activity
Moderate. Most locations are vehicle-accessible, but reaching Deadvlei involves a 1km soft-sand walk, and climbing dunes is optional but rewarding for specific perspectives.
Transport Mode
We travel in heavy-duty, customized 4x4 vehicles. For the Skeleton Coast, these are specifically equipped for extreme sand driving and remote desert survival.
Dust & Gear Safety
Namibia is notoriously dusty. We recommend bringing a dedicated cleaning kit (blowers and cloths) and, if possible, two camera bodies to minimize lens changes in the field.
Meals & Lodging
Accommodation is a blend of boutique lodges and high-end desert camps. All meals are typically included during the remote segments of the journey.
Insurance & Medevac
Comprehensive travel insurance with emergency medical evacuation (Medevac) cover is mandatory due to the extreme remoteness of the Skeleton Coast region.
Charging & Power
Our GoGravel vehicles are equipped with charging points for batteries, and lodges provide power each evening. We still recommend carrying at least one spare battery per day.
